03.19.04 - Do I ever cross your mind, anytime? Do you ever wake up reaching out for me...

:: Sunday, January 11, 2004 ::
You know what I really love? Winter nights when light reflect off of the snow so that it seems as if the entire sky is glowing like a firework that's just gone off. I don't know, there's just something so surreal about it.

Alright, so here's my problem: People with problems who think their problems are the biggest problems in the world. Not to get all preachy or anything, but there is always somebody out there who's got it a lot worse, so stop fucking complaining.

But then again, I get the sense that I'm one of those people sometimes. In fear of being labelled a huge hypocrite, I'm just going say what spawned my little rant -

My cousin broke up with his girlfriend of two years about a month ago - since then, he's been coming to me (of all people...because I'm so great with relationships and such) for advice, etc. Basically, I've been his sounding board for the last month. In that time, he's often asked me why I understand how he feels - that desparation, the loneliness, etc... and truthfully, I don't know why I understand because I've never been in a serious relationship, never mind broken from one. Although, on some level, I have experienced all those things, except it's from the other side - it's hard to explain, if you understand, then you get a big kudos from me. But I digress, my point is that the entire time, he acts as if he's the only person in the entire world to have ever broken up with someone. He acts as if it's some kind of disease that gives him the right to skip out on the things that should still matter - like his education for example; his health, you all get the point.

Then he has this other crisis of what he wants to do with his life - go to college and try to get into the police academy? Or stay at York and get his BBA. I, amongst others, keep telling him to go do the police thing because I can totally imagine him as a cop, but not as a business man. Again, he acts as if he's the only one in the world who has to decide on a career and has actually skipped a week of school to "mull it over".

Newsflash - I don't know what I'm going to do with my life. I know loads of people who don't know what to do with their lives. I don't skip a week of school to think about it!

I don't know anymore: I love him like a brother and he's one of my best friends (honestly!) but it's so frustrating to see him be so egocentric.
